Upgrade/save for new rig?

Hi, i'm desperate for a better/faster pc for a better gaming experience. My current spec is


AMD Athlon 64 4200+ 2.21GHz

3 x 1 gig ram
2 x (1 gig Corsair PC2-6400 [400Mhz])
1 gig OCZ PC2-4300 [266Mhz]

Gpu
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1gig GDDR5

mobo is asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe.


The mobo does support some quad cores, would it be worth buying one of those and some better ram? Or try and save for an i5?

My answer would be... save the pennies in the jar and go i5!!

Cheap am3 mobo with athlon x2 or x3 cpu and some good ddr3 will set you fine and all that should cost you not more than 150 pounds total.

And if you sell your bits that will leave you with just around 100 total cost !
