I'm looking to upgrade my system at some point in the next month or so and i'm trying to work out the best way of doing it....

I'm currently running a athlon 2500+ and 1gig of decent(ish) speed ddr, a 9800 AIW and 120gig maxtor with 2mb cash...

the disk space and graphic aren't really a problem but i've been doing some consulting from home and running several vmware machines in parrallel is really making the machine struggle.

What are my options like for upgrading the motherboard and processor but keeping the case and everything else? is this doable or would i need the newer cases? how much of a step up can i make without going to a new case?

Cheers
Sam

you cant really buy shuttle mobo's seperatly, the only place you can their horribly expensive and it would be almost the same price as buying it brand new with a case, so id advise you jsut go for a wholenew shuttle (case and mobo) considering you want your HDD and graphics, your gonna be lookin at somethin like the SN85G4V3 with a socket 754 cpu, or a SN95G5V2 or V3 with a socket 939 cpu. other than that, i think there will be some intel set-ups with AGP but i dont know anythin bout them unfortunitly :(

it might also be worth while gettin a 2gb RAM pack. OcUK, Geil or Gskil all do relativly cheap 2gb packs now, that should help plenty with the Vmware stuff

arr yes, its all about the pci express now... hrm, shows how long it is sync i last did anything on the hardware side of things :D

2gig is defernatly tempting... just figured the processor upgrade might be worth the investment too....
