hi,
got my 5770 arriving on monday,
now i am looking at RAM, motherboard and CPU

three options have sprung to mind

Intel Core i3-2120 @ 3.3GHz

or

Intel Core i3-550 @ 4GHz

or

AMD Phenom X4 955 @ 3.8GHz

which is best for gaming with my GFX, also 8GB or 4GB??
£250 Budget, no more.
buying in the summer so the phenom might go down in price.

thanks

The 13 2120 is very fast,

The i5 2300 quad core is faster again - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300.html

The Z68 motherboard has SSD caching

It is possible to get it down to £252.36 with this RAM - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-183-OC - but I would pick the Corsair.

Was literally just about to say Stulid, might as well go for a £90 Z68 or P67 if you're going to spend that money on a board. No point settling for a H67.

But £60 for that MSI H67 is a bargain, leaves him £60 left over from his budget.

Its got SATA3.0 and USB3.0, you cant oveclock any of these CPU'S so may as well save the cash.

Aye, was referring to the £90 one Jordan97 suggested, of course if you're keeping costs low, £60 on a H67 is as good as anything.

but that doesnt take into account the overclock i could get from a 955, which i cant get from the 2300 because it is non-k series,

You couldn't overclock a AMD CPU large enough to make up that difference, its clearly way ahead of the [email protected]

Plus the less wattage it uses and heat generated.

i have seen people get a decent 4.2GHz on air with the phenom, probably with a expensive motherbaord which i cant afford.
while we are on the topic of overclocking, what settings would be good enough to get a Intel Pentium dual core E2180 upto 3.2GHz??
