Can get rid of SSD, but having OS, GW2, SWTOR, and D3 on SSD would be nice. The HX520 should power a 7850 nicely (total system load, under 400W).

May need 8 pin CPU power extension, if you want a tidy system with the cable tucked behind the motherboard tray.

I also like the AsRock Z77 Extreme4. I have it's little Z68 brother, and it's a good board.

thanks m8, just wondered why u have spec'd a psu in the 2nd build but not the 1st?

The HX520 is a good PSU, and the card doesn't use a lot of power. Around 150W for the card, and under 350W for the system. The second system is if you wanted a new PSU anyway, but I'd trust that HX520.

But if you want a new PSU, You'll have to forfeit the SSD (if you don't want to skimp on the rest).

BTW, I've looked further in that motherboard, and not too impressed with its 4-pin CPU power. I would probably spend a little more towards a AsRock Z77 Extreme4 and drop the CPU cooler to something cheaper (Nero3 is good). I have its brother, the Z68 Extreme4, and it's very good.

for my money, it would look like this

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £173.99

1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £39.95

I would either forfeit the CPU cooler, or spend a little and get the Nero3.

The Sapphire is a good card but out of stock. The MSI Twin Frozr are great cards too.

Ok update -

Just got a cheap I7 2700K with a msi z68a-gd55 and some corsair vengeance memory 8gb

So budget is down to £ 436

Only issue i have is the ram is not the low profile ram, so either i need a cpu cooler spec'd to account for this on the msi board or i need to sell it and re-buy "as it was part of a bundle i cannot return it"

Thanks for all your help so far

Ok so i went with this setup so far....

I7 2700K
MSI Z68A-GD55
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
MSI AMD Radeon HD 7850 Twin Frozr III/OC 2048MB GDDR5
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Case
Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G400 3600DPI Gaming Mouse

Can anyone let me know of some good 120mm and 140mm fans please?

also, can anyone recommend a psu which would fit the case i have bought without the need for an extension cable or a psu stating it needs one which is good.

Id like 2 options please, 1 if im staying single card and 2nd in case i xfire them

Thanks

Very nice.

Why do you need the fans? Depends on the usage, but Gentle Typhoons are good. SilentWings, Akasa Apache.

PSUs usually don't need extensions. It can be a bit 'tight' in some cases (mainly large ATX cases). 8-pin power cable should be 60 cm.

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX Pro 750W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £82.99
1 x XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £64.99
Total : £159.98 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I have a AX850 with a 60cm cable, and it is a little of a stretch in a Carbide 500R.

But really, 55-60cm is the norm, and if it's too short, just use one of these

YOUR BASKET
1 x Akasa 8-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable £4.79
Total : £7.07 (includes shipping : £1.90).

Then you can get a CM Silent Pro 600W, or anything around and over 550W. 750W or over for Crossfire (which still leaves a lot of room).

Thanks mate, with my board in post above the msi one will it do both pci-e at 16x in crossfire or even would it be a worthy upgrade in a yr or so's time to crossfire 2 7850's

That board will run 8x/8x in crossfire which will be fine :)

It would give a nice boost, and they should be cheaper by then [or you might find one second hand] - so if all your components are CF compatible it can be a relatively cheap upgrade for quite a bit more power!

this is what i went with :D

XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9)
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366)
Akasa AK-FN062 Apache Black Super Silent 140mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM x2 for top of case
Akasa SATA-III 100cm Rounded Data Cable x3 "wanted everything to match lol"
Akasa Siliconized Rubber Fan Pins - 20 Pack
Akasa AK-CB002 PWM Fan Splitter Cable x2 "just in case"

ill just sell my other ram or keep as spares with the original heatsink or something lol
