Hi all,
I am itching for a new upgrade but on a limited budget.
My currents system is
AMD 3700 san diego 939 oc to 2600
1gig Kingston Hyperx 3200 ram ( 2x 512)
Epox nvraid 4 mobo
2x 72gb raptors in raid 0
1 x 300gb seagate drive
Leadtek 7800gt 256mb
Antec Sonata Case
Hiper 580w PSU

I have around £400 to spend and ideally only want to replace the Mobo/CPU/ram
I will be selling the other kit on to a friend. Is it worth swapping the GT card for an ATI 1950 ? I would like the option for SLI/Xfire in the future.

This system will be used for video editing using Avid Xpress and for playing games such as Oblivion. I ideally would like to keep the raptors as raid 0.

I was thinking of an E3600 as the cpu but thats as far as I have got.

As always any help will be gratefully received.

Cheers

mm seems that the Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard is AMD not INtel can you recommend an SLI mobo to go with the conroe, it needs to have sata raid.

Bump for the morning crowd.

Can anyone recommend a raid/sli conroe mobo ?

I've not had experience of them, but i'm thinking of purchasing an nvidia 650i mobo, the Asus P5N-E SLi, they're good overclockers and for the price, they seem to be awesome C2D motherboards, performing as well as the 680i's which are twice the price.

For you the caveats of this board would be x8 slots for SLi (x16 for one card). However, id say keep the 7800 GT and save up for a dx10 card, dont waste your money on dx9 tech! A single slot dx10 solution like the 8800 GTS/X would be ideal, albeit pricey! The motherboard is cheap though, so at least if you buy it now you'll have a little extra saved towards a dx10 card.

As for RAID... I wouldn't really use integrated RAID for anything serious. I'd use a controller card that'll set you back £40-60 depending on the make, due to the fact they're faster, allow you a lot more options for RAID and won't have size limitations. It'll also end up being cheaper buying the P5N-E SLi mobo and a RAID controller card than it would buying a premium all in one motherboard anyway tbh!
