Hi guys, my cousin said he wants a computer like mine, so he is buying it off me. So i have money to buy a new system. He wants a few things from my computer changed so i have just whipped up a quick spec, he just said he wants a quick and quiet pc, and he likes the look of mine. Its more or less the same as my old spec, just upgraded and updated.

I noticed in my pc, its quite loud, it might be due to my Scythe Ninja breaking, so i had to replace it with the stock Intel cooler it might be that making all the racket, or it might be the 2 stock 120mm fans that came with the Lian Li, im not sure. I will be buying fans to replace the loud ones in the Lian Li. See below.

My current PC spec, soon to be my cousins (The stuff in bold is what im keeping, and will replace for his pc):
E6400 @ 3.2
Gigabyte DS3
GeIL 2GB PC6400
Seagate 7200.10 250GB
BFG 7600GT 256MB
Corsair HX 520W
Lian Li PC-7+

Pioneer 111D DVD-RW
Maxtor IDE 250GB

Stuff for my new PC

CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £117.49
I remember when i paid a lot more for my E6400, now its discontinued! Is it worth going for this CPU now? Or waiting for a pricedrop when the new Intel chips come out?

MOBO
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard £96.34
Gigabtye or Asus? What's the difference between the DS3R and DS3P, from the pictures i could see the DS3P supported crossfire, and the DS3R didnt, is this the only difference?

RAM
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804) £84.59
Should i get this RAM, or just another set of the GeIL in my current PC? Is it best to buy now, as i have heard RAM prices are on the rise?

HDD
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £66.96
This HDD will join my 250GB 7200.10 in my current pc, and i will give the Maxtor harddrive to my cousin, im sure 250GB will be plently for him. Is the 7200.10 still the top dog out of the WD, Samsung? Ive heard of the new Hitachi ones, are they better?

GFX
OcUK GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £76.36
I don't play games on my pc, but i need the Dual DVI to connect my TV, and my monitor for watching movies etc. Is this worth it over the 7600GT? Also how loud is the fan on this card i noticed my BFG 7600GT is VERY loud, i am sitting on my bed typing this with music on, and i can still hear it.

PSU
I will be keeping my HX 520W in my system.

DVD-RW

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM £19.96
Will this be sufficient?

Fans
Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin x2 £25.82
In the picture it shows 3 fans, surely it only comes with 1 of the 3? Or does it come with 3? Also are these the best for performace/noise? Ive seen the Noctua ones and apparently they are very good, how do these mark up with them?

Card Reader
Lian-Li Black Aluminium Card Reader £23.49

CPU Cooler
Thermalright Ultra-120 (Socket 754/939/940/LGA775) Heatsink £35.24
To replace my broken Scythe Ninja, ive heard its the best cooler atm?

Have i missed anything from my pc spec?

Stuff for my cousins PC

PSU
OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply £58.74
Will this be ok for his PC? Or is it overkill, should i go for something like the Tagan 480W? I would prefer modular as its easier to see what your doing, but i dont mind.

Case
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black £54.04
Its a very good case, as i have it now in my pc. Is there anything out there now that beats it?

CPU Cooler

Thermalright MST-9775 (Socket LGA775) Heatsink £16.44
Just for a simple overclock, im running my E6400 on 3.2Ghz atm, with the stock cooler, its a little hot, so this should keep the temps down a bit.

Thats it :D
Thanks for reading, it was hell just to sort this out.
Ill be keeping my eye on the This Week Only section, and see if any offers crop up :)
I'll be awaiting your views

Cheers

Regarding the CPU, wait for the price drop and go quad core with the money youve saved :D

And im sure that dvd is sufficient for normal everyday use.

Thanks for your reply :)
Do you have any idea when the prices will drop, and what prices they might drop to?

I chose the E6550 because of the 1333FSB

Oh just noticed you can clip on another fan to the TT, so i might get another fan, or will the heatsink work great without the fan?

Ooooh thats tasty :p
Was just reading up on the E6550's they clock quite far on low voltage
We'll see come the 22nd :D

Forgot to add the budget for the pc is about £650 ish.
