Hi all.

So here is my current set up.

Intel Core i7 CPU 920
ATI Radeon HD 5800
Gigabyte GA-EX58 UD5 Mother Board
750W PSU
Corsair 1600 Mhz XMS 3 DDR3 RAM (3x 2GB)

Average price of an xbox one without games is £350. With that as a budget what would you suggest I upgrade to play recent titles

Thanks

Notes: I use 2 x 24" monitors and a bitfenix shinobi case.

You might be able to push it a little further then I would think. Still a capable CPU! Would heartily recommend a 290 series card, though prices may drop soon if rumours are to be believed and they announce a new series of cards

Amd 290 or an nvidia 780, either of theese would be a nice upgrade. And your cpu will be fine if you oc it.. I have an x58 system as a second machine, with one of the 780's in my sig spec installed in it. Games run pretty much the same as the 4790k based system.

I prob could push the CPU abit more but I don't like messing with it incase I **** it up. Haha.

I do like the look of that 290 and with 3 games too !

Hey guys, if im happy with playing things on high, not overly bothered by ultra and all the anti aliasing turned up to max would a mid range £150-£200 card be sufficient ?

Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X WindForce 3X OC 4096MB GDDR5 - as an example.

radeon 5870-6950-7870-270x are kind of similar and only small steps up so i dont think you will see a great improvement, i'd say at least a 280x to see a big enough boost to be worth it.

Noticed your set up isn't much different to
Mine at the mo.

How is the 920 holding up with modern games ?

You've also got the 290. What sort of graphics settings do you play at ?

holding up completely fine, can play everything on ultra at 60 fps+ for the most part at 1920x1200, had a 6950 previously, not much quicker than a 5870 which was still ok, could play everything on high at a playable 30+ frame rate at least, so considering the massive boost i got with the 290 shows very little bottleneck with the i7 920

My 290x runs most things at max at 1440p at 60fps, really decent card! 280x will still be a decent upgrade though for the price, the 290 is a crazy good deal
