Hi all,

I was wondering if somone could give me some possible upgrade suggestions on my rig. Now some of these questions may be totally lame, but I have just got back from Afghanistan so have been out of the loop for 9 months or so.

My current build look like this:
Intel Core i5 750 @ 4.00GHz
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Graphics Card
Corsair HX 750W ATX 750 PSU
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HD
Hanns.G HG281D 28" Widescreen LCD Monitor

I am thinking go getting a Solid state harddrive as these look fun, but what should I do with regards to my graphics cards? Is it worth getting a 2nd 5850, or is there a better option available?
I am not looking to just get the fasted build I can regardless of price, but I did find my 5850 enabled me to play more or less everything bar Crysis (which I don't play as I think it is rubbish) on full settings no trouble, but some more recent games seem to be giving it trouble now!

My price range will really be dependant on the size of the performance boost I would get.

Thanks in advance

why would you want to upgrade from an i5 750 @ 4.0ghz??

the only way is the i7 980 extreme, maybe GTX480 in SLI (if you have the cash that is)

6 BG Domitor RAM at 2000ghz

In your case, biggest performance boost will be by upgrading the gpu.

Maybe your cheapest cost efficent strategy is to get another 5850. (See benchmarks)

Maybe see if you can get one second hand, on the cheap?

Or wait for the new high end 6900 series from AMD and the 580GTX from Nvidia, sell the 5850 and get one of those!

Your cpu is more than fine for at least 2 years of high end gaming!

4gb of ram is fine untill games start coming with 64bit executables.

I would say my Pc (in sig) is quite similar to yours, and I can for see my self happy for the next two years.

But yea, your 5850 is bottlenecking you.

"but some more recent games seem to be giving it trouble now!" Which games might these be? I'm on pretty much the same spec as you and I've played / finished most of the latest games with no performance issues.

Recently been playing Mtero 2033. Really good looking game.

Been playing with settings, trying to find what looked best but also was able to give a good level of fps.

Based on looking at benchmarks, the 5850 (level performance) is the minimum you need to start enjoying tomorrows dx11 games at any decent level of details.

Also based on these benchmarks especially in Metro 2033 there is a wide gulf between the 5850 and 5870!

By the sounds of it the op would do what ever possible to have awsome frames and awsome quality ingame, thats why he is finding his 5850 is starting to strain, becuase he is trying to push it beyound its power.

But all in all, the 5850 is still a great card if its owner doesnt mind lowering some settings...

that is more or less my issue, Metro seems to beast my computer as it stands. Any ideas when the new high end cards aregoing to be on the shelves?
