Upgrade Suggestions

just a few questions we need to know the answers to before we can give you advice:

- whats your budget for the upgrade?
- what are you planning to use the computer for
- do you need an OS, case, 3rd monitor, new HDD, new DVD drive?

right, just need the budget and we can give you some suggestions. not needing all that stuff makes our life a lot easier :D

*edit*
ive just realised you've got an AM3 socket motherboard. any chance of posting which one it is, because if its a half decent one then you should be able to keep it, which will save you a load of money

*if your not sure what motherboard you have, download CPU-Z and it will tell you: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

i knew i forgot to ask something. how much ram do you have? if its 4GB or more then it'll be fine, if not then getting the cheapest 4GB 1600Mhz option will be your best bet.
also, what power supply do you have? (using a cheap PSU is probably the worst thing you can do with a computer)

well, that makes things nice and simple, since your RAM, PSU, Mobo and graphics card are already good (i assume you want to keep the new GTX460)

heres my suggestion for your upgrade:

mounting kit removed - the SSD comes with one as standard

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £95.99
1 x OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G) £95.99
1 x Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3) £38.99
Total : £241.76 (includes shipping : £9.00).

the 60GB SSD is completely optional, but with the extra £100 or so left after the processor and cooler, it was the only logical thing to spend it on. it'll be great to put the OS and your favourite games on. ive also included an adapter so it will fit in your hard drive bay

also, make sure the processor cooler will fit in your case. it comes up 160mm above the motherboard, so if there is less than 160mm between the case and the motherboard, you'll want a different one

+1 to Reaper. That would be a great upgrade.

But I am pretty sure that the Vertex comes with a mounting kit. My one did. Save a fiver!

Good spec above.

Aside from the Venom - performs rather badly on AM3.

I'd be looking at the Gelid Tranquillo (which I'm getting :p) when it comes back in stock, or the more dear Titan Fenrir (which is about 1-2'c cooler than the Gelid).

You only need that cooler if you're planning some serious overclocking:D

Something like a Freezer Pro 7 in the £20 range will be fine if you're not.
