Hi,

The time has come for me to re-evaluate my hardware situation! :p

My stalwart 24" iMac is my everyday machine and it's served me well for nearly 3 years now. I also have a 13" MBP and an iPad - neither of which get used that much. The iPad literally 2-3 times a week while I watch TV in bed and the MBP I take to client meetings (never use it in the house), sometimes gets used, most of the time doesn't.

So I'm thinking of selling up and buying a 27" iMac as my new main machine and a 13" MBA as my travel/meeting companion. I think this solution might be best as I'd consolidate my uses of the MBP + iPad with the MBA and have a more up to date machine as my everydayer.

This isn't 100% set in stone at the minute, so I wanted the opinions of the forum before I take the plunge! Any advice appreciated :)

Onto the second part of this post. Has anyone sent an iMac via courrier? I assume RMSD would be fine for the MBP and iPad, but I'd want something more suitable for the weight/size of the iMac. Does anyone have a service which covers an iMac with the appropriate insurance to recommend?

Cheers.

You could use any courier as long as you package properly and it has insurance. http://www.parcel2go.com/ offers lots of options including insurance upto £1k.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just looked at the T&Cs on parcel2go and it seems that Monitors are sent at own risk. I can't work out whether that's with standard delivery or with the extra insurance (up to £1K) also.

Anyone actually sent an iMac with a certain courrier before?

I've never sent an iMac, but have sent lots of computers, some monitors, and various high value items. Never had an issue and never had to claim. If you have the original iMac packaging, its been shipped from China (?) in that, and the likely again to your house. If you are really worried just sell it collection only.

The box they ship in to stores is just another cardboard box over the retail packaging, there's no more padding.

If I was sending one privately I'd just make an outer box for it to stop the original getting damaged (and hide it), but that's it.
