well birthdays coming up in a couple of months and ive had my rig for around 2 years now so i was thinking time for an upgrade.... problem being i cant think of anything worth while as apart from gaming my only other use of my computer is for autocad and 3d ground modelling, and i cant see a worthy upgrade avalible at the moment.

current spec:

Q6600 @ 3.78Ghz
8Ghz of OCZ DDR2 REAPER X EDITION
GTX280 graphics card
Neo2-FR iP35 mother board
(see sig for the rest)

i was wondering if i7 or i5 is worth it or should i wait till christmas time to upgrade to one of those specs when the prices come down making the performace increase/pound ratio more acceptable??

no wise words....

are the i7 looking to come down in price soon with the introduction of i5 or is it going to have the opposite effect? empthizing on the fact the i7 is the elite range.

sorry for the spelling using one of these short key boards:rolleyes:

Well if you don't need a performance boost, why bother upgrading? With that rig I'd hold off upgrading til you go for i7, which you could do now I guess.

well its always nice to have a boost but its wether the increase is that noticable?

Just trying to work out if I should hold off till christmas when I would expect the price of the cpu's and boards to be a lot cheaper making the Peformance increse / Price a lot more acceptable.

True, well from the looks of things you're something of an enthusiast so i5 won't be for you. I reckon mobo prices will start dropping quite a bit in the next few months as i5's are prepped for release and i7 gets past its first months. Probably worth waiting unless you're desperate for that performance boost (which will be pretty damn big :))
