well with xmas almost here and a new year filled with new games it's time for me to upgrade my gpu but can't make up my mind what to get, i have a budget of about £300 and i'm mainly thinking about going back to nvidia due to my motherboard being SLI and not Xfire

here are the options i'm considering

option 1: 460GTX x2 sli with the option to add a 3rd if needed in the future i'm thinking about these

option 2: 570GTX again giving me the option of adding a 2nd later in the year

option 3: ?????

my system spec is in my sig, i don't plan on upgrading the motherboard and cpu for a while as i'm waiting for the next gen to come out before i do anything and even with my current set-up i'm not seeing 100% load on all 4 cores, also the max res i game at is 1080p

That is two GTX 460s in SLI versus the GTX 480. The GTX 570 is comparable to that (GTX 480) so I just used that as a reference.

I think the 570 for future pairing up would be the better choice but because it's for now, the 460s are the better buy until then. So it depends on what you're wanting I'm afraid, it's not an easy choice :).
 
cheers for the link JD, yeah it's a tough one but i think i like the 460's at the mo as i'm not too keen on spending £300 on a single card, and the msi cards i want to get are the same as a stock 470, shame i have just found out the 460's are not tri sli compatable but it's not a massive problem by the time they start being a problem the rest of the system will be falling behind as well :)
 
I would go for a second 5850. With that budget you might aswell get another two! I would recommend sticking to ati so i would go 6970/5850 trifire.
 
I didnt know you could get an sli motherboard with AMD cpu sockets?

If your not looking for an ATI card, I would get a 570 personally, (or a 6970 if you dont mind ATI)

Also as above a second 5850 would probably the most cost effective upgrade, unless you can sell your current card.
 
Op has stated his board supports Sli so no CF5850. I would recommend the 570 and maybe Sli another when possible. Powerful single card just now should suffice for just now and next year.:)

I'd probably do the same and buy the 460s. What really matters, is the now and with the accelerated depreciation of technology, that second 570 would probably be a bad decision by the time you want to change it all up again.

So a good choice are the 460s (yoda).

Get Gbyte SOC while its on offer, most clock to 900 on stock volts, they would be monsters in SLI..

Or get the 470 SOC? Which im running in SLI, and they destroy everything...
