So its been a wee while since upgrading but is that time again.

Looking to spend around £200 and hopefully have something capable or running bf4 and fallout4 when it comes

Current specs
I5 4670k @ 3.4
8gb ddr3 ram
Gigabyte Z87x Sli

As always advice massively appreciated :)

Cheapest way to upgrade imho is pick up a second hand 290x or a 380 if you don't want preowned. nVidia's offerings below £200 aren't even worth a look tbh, unless you find someone selling a cheap 970.

Yeah, a second hand 290(X) would be the best you could do for that money. A 4GB 380 would still be a decent upgrade though.

Ok thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated.

Perhaps if i could stretch the budget to 300 and opt for a 970 this would be my best route?

If so which 970 would be preferable?

I don't think the difference between 380 and 970 is worth the extra money myself.. then again I bought 2 Fury X so I can't really comment on value :P

Having run both the 970 and 290x (390 effectively), there is little in it. I would personally go for the 970, purely for GameWorks, Nvidia DSR and Geforce Experience (ShadowPlay).

So your happy to suggest a AMD 380 Starting from £150 but instantly dismiss a NVidia 960 starting at £150, even though they pretty much go head to head depending on which game your playing. Seems to be fairly biased to me, either would be a great upgrade from a 6870. :)

The 380 is faster and also available in 4GB versions...

If the OP is going to above the £200 range then the R9 390 8GB is the better card vs the GTX 970.

However I would go for a used 290X for around £170-£200. Best bang for buck right now.

Both are available in 4Gb form from £170, performance wise it is very marginal, maybe the 380 is a smidgen faster.
I wouldn't let the performance difference instantly dismiss either card, both are good options and would be massive upgrade to a 6870.
