Upgrade time: Any thoughts before I drop some cash?

I thought it was about time I upgraded my Core 2 Duo 3Ghz, and this is where I'm at parts-wise. Nothing high-end, more importantly has to run relatively cool and very quiet.

In my current setup, to be used in the upgraded version:
AMD 7850

Just arrived in the post:
Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler

On my short list to go with the above:
TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Intel Core i5-4440 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150

Any thoughts on the last 2 items and whether there are more suitable options would be much appreciated. Note the above Mobo/Cooler combo only just has enough clearance for 30mm tall RAM modules - just! :)

Cheers!

what is the PC going to be used for and also do you have a budget at all?

processor I would go for if its for gaming

K series allows you to overclock the CPU as the one you currently have is a non K CPU. may give you more time before needing to upgrade in the future as you can overclock the CPU instead of replacing it.

link above doesn't come with a cooler as you already have one so saves you some money

the ram should be fine

RAM is fine as it is limited by the chipset

He wont be able to overclock much if at all, Z87/Z97 for the fully unlocked K CPUs.

Cheers guys. At work here too, so torn between that and ordering new toys.

There isn't a target budget or use, it's more to put some 'zip' back into the performance and reduce cpu max-out when occasionally playing games like FC4!

Not really interested in O/c'ing either as I'm more about cool and quiet than squeezing every last bit of performance.

Judging by the photo it should be fine, but can anyone confirm whether the aforementioned RAM is indeed no taller than the 30mm standard?

Cheers

I have looked at the description but it doesn't state how tall the sticks are.

might be worth giving OCUK a quick call and I'm sure they will help you out or even check how high they are

It's possible that he may be able to overclock on a H81 board. Depends on the options in the bios. I have done it on a B85 board and the Asrock H81-HDS I used in the sister in laws build had some overclocking options too.
