Hi all,
I think it's finally time to upgrade my ancient Logitech MX1000 and get something more modern.

I'm purely right handed and tend to use a finger/claw grip, I have a fabric covered mouse pad so I believe an optical rather than laser sensor would be better? In terms a what I play it's a bit of a mix with rpgs, mmos, strategy with some light FPS so I need something that's a good all-rounder. I prefer a relatively clean mouse with a few buttons but not too many things cluttering it up so none of the mmo style ones with entire keypads on. Purely from a vanity perspective something black with red leds (or customizable) would go best with the rest of my setup.

My budget is about £50 and from looking around at reviews these three seem to fit my needs.

Mionix Avior

Razer DeathAdder Chroma

Roccat Kone Pure Optical

Are any of those obviously better than the others or indeed are there any others I should be considering?

Many Thanks,

Ross

The Naos and the Avior are basically the same mouse aren't they, just a dfferent shape? What's the general size/shape/feel of the Naos compared to the MX1000?

the naos is the same shape as the 1000 or at least the closest ive found to date. Its a lot lighter due to not having batteries and a receiver unit for the wireless.

Yes they are basically the same mouse different shape but with mice isnt it all about the comfort of shape

Yeah the shape is something I'm not certain on. I got the MX years ago when it first came out basically because it looked cool but without any real thought about it. I've got used to it's shape now but it's only recently I've really looked into mice in more detail and found out about the different types and realised that I've been using a claw/fingertip style. Now I think in theory the more sculpted stlye of the Naos/MX are more suited for palm grips and the plainer Avior style is better for claw/fingertip?
I think I'll probably just have to pick one style and worst case if I really don't like it then I can DSR it back for one of the other style.

Welshdragon, is it purely the shape of the Avior you prefer or any technical reason?

The Naos and Avior 7000 are identical hardware wise, it is purely their shape that is different.

I use a bit of a claw/palm grip hybrid combo and find the Avior works best for me. I would do as you mention, order a few and dsr the ones you don't like.

I specifically like the 7k's though as they feature a kick ass optical sensor. Same sensor is found in the fk1 I believe. Very nice bit of kit, my accuracy in BF4 definitely improved.

I'm a happy camper with mine. Buying again today the Avior or Zowie FK1 would be front runners.

Just noticed the Avior Sk edition on daily special. Same as the 7000 just sk branding, might be worth a punt

Yeah it was seeing the SK Daily Deal that made me think about upgrading, shame it's got all those white buttons as I just don't like that look at all. Vain I know but I think I'll spend the extra £6 for the black buttons :)

Well it was delivered yesterday along with my Haribo fix, great service by OCUK as usual, and I got a couple of hours to try it out.

First impressions very good, well packaged and presented. It's quite light coming from the MX1000 but still feels solid and the coating gives a very good grip. The buttons are very light to press, possibly a little too light but I didn't have any problems with accidental clicks so should be ok. The shape feels very different in my hand coming from the MX but within 30 mins I had got used to it and it felt comfortable and natural to hold.
Performance wise it definitely gives a smoother feel than the MX and being able to switch the dpi on the fly was actually quite useful as I could go for quite a low setting in game where shooting was involved (Borderlands 2 and Saints Row 4 last night) and up it for menus, desktop and games with a cursor rather than camera movement. I don't think it'll turn me into a pro fps player but it definitely improved my headshot accuracy in the games last night.
The software to set it up was very nice as well, quite simple and easy to change the settings and the 'breathing' led mode is pointless but very cool to look at :)

Overall very pleased with it so thanks all who recommended it.

Had a bit more time now and really like it, feels so much more natural shape than the MX, wish I'd realised that earlier now :)

Hehe, yeah I know what you mean, before my headshots would come off 1 in 100 times, now it's 1 in 50 :)

I must seem like a Mionix fanboi sometimes but it truly surprises me how little talk time they get. The mice and headset are great in fairness. Granted there's a world of choice out there...apparently

Yeah I have to say I'd never heard of them at all until reading in here. Not exactly a household name so a very pleasant surprise to find the quality so high.
