As I have been out of the loop for a good while I would like some advice on which way to go.

Current PC in sig, I have enough HD/space although I may get a larger SSD at some point.

I was looking just to change my Mobo/Cpu/Gfx as I already have 16gb ram.
I want cool and quiet (will keep the Cpu/Gpu air cooled for now) and good gaming performance @1080p.

So up to £200 on CPU:
1. FX8350 or 4570K, both stock does the Intel outperform the faster clocked AMD ?

2. up to £250 on Graphics,I am fond of AMD, but will happily use Nvidia if there is a decent advantage in performance or coolness and quietness.

3. Up to £150 for the Mobo for the CPU you suggest ?

Prices just as a guideline per item, but looking to spend up to £600 total.

So what and why please people ? :)

Stulids nailed it.

7950 is a very good card at that price point. The TF cooler is very good too, so you can get a good over clock on that.

4670k is the best gaming CPU of the moment, that board will allow you to get a nice stable overclock too.

Get it under water as soon as you can. :)

Ok Gents, TBH those CPU benchies looked swings and roundabouts, but there were no gaming results in the mix, so I'll take the benefit of your knowledge its a better proposition despite the extra cost.

What sort of cpu clocks can be expected with minimal voltage increases ?

How about temps ? will the Intel run hotter ? I suspect the stock intel cooler is pretty marginal at cooling, any reasonable sized quiet after market air coolers worth having ?

I will look to see if EK has suitable blocks for the cpu and gpu for a later date :)

That should clear up which is faster for you.

OP has correctly identified that:

1. Those benchies do actually show the 8350 is the more powerful CPU for intensive applications (2nd pass x264, POV-ray, Cinebench (latest version)) at stock.

2. The opposite is true for games, which favour short pipelines and accurate branch predictions.

Well done!

Ok :p

So it looks like the 4670k can be variable clockers, but 4ghz should be almost a given without too much of a voltage increase ?

What does the UD3H offer that the D3H and D3HP don't ?

At the risk of talk .. er typing to myself.
I didn't say this before, but thanks to Stulid and Doomedspeed for the recommendation.

I will go the i5/7950 route although unsure if its worth paying the extra for the UD3 over the other 2 gigabyte boards ?

As I have the WC stuff already in place, I may as well get a nice block for the CPU and see how I get one with the stock GPU cooling for now.
I like EK, but TBH the new ones I don't much care for the looks, irrelevant seeing as my case sits in a way that I don't see inside anyhow !
But I am rather taken with the heatkiller looks so may get that block :)

You gotta love it when packages you were expecting Monday, arrive today :D

But build can't start as waterblock for CPU isn't due until Monday :p
