Hi Guys, have decided it's time to take the plunge and upgrade my current system. Please Spec me up!! At the moment I have:

Phenom ii 955BE
4GB 1600 Corsair
XFX 5870 BE
Asus M4A88T-M
Powered by a 530w bequiet PSU.

I'm hoping to sell these parts to help fund the upgrade. Unless I need a more powerful PSU I will probably keep the one I have. I have an SSD and a HDD so no worries there.

Looking to spend about £500 or less including what i get from selling the old parts.

Also considering upgrading from my 27" 1080 monitor to a "CATLEAP Q270 27" (2560X1440, obviously not coming out the £500 budget) so a couple of quick questions there:

1. Is it worth the money for the extra resolution and refresh rate? (im a gamer)

2. How does the slower response time effect games?

3.Will my build budget allow for a GPU that can handle this kind of business?

I appreciate the help- Always do my reading on OcUK before buying parts, and know that this is the best place to come!!

Can you re-use your case or has it seen better days? I'll edit a spec in shortly.

EDIT: This would do nicely. :) You won't be able to overclock the CPU very well though, unless you opted to pay another £50 for the 3570K. I assumed you can re-use your case, DVD drive and that your PSU is powerful enough.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus HD 7950 DirectCU II V2 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs & 20% off MOH Warfighter PC Games £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £137.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £81.98
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £29.99
Total : £489.95 (includes shipping : FREE).

I'd prefer a better case- (one where i can route cables behind the mobo, and use clips for hdd's instead of fiddly screws!). But the actual build is more important to me.

Cheers!

EDIT: Cheers Sparx, looks good! any thoughts on the display?

I've edited my original post above yours buddy.

I went for the lower end i5 as opposed to an i3 as it just squeezes into your £500 budget (and it was on offer). I also got in the Asus 7950 which is a quality card which is also on this week's offers. :D

Case wise, maybe push it a touch more? ;) Then grab maybe the Xigmatek Asgard Pro (£32.99) or the BitFenix Shinobi (£49.99)?

EDIT: What's the exact monitor (make/model) you have currently?

1/ It can be, games do look nicer on it but it all scales with the size of the screen. Going from a 27" slightly stretched 1920x1080 res to 2560x1440 would probs look very nice but not sure if it would be worth it, it's your money! :p The refresh rate I presume would be the same?

2/ It causes ghosting, but the impact would be minimal depending which monitor you went for.

3/ Yes, I snuffed in a 7950. :D

I currently have an LG M2762D. The refresh rate is 60hz.

The cat leap monitor is also rated at 60hz, but they are overclockable, some people have apparently had 130hz, not that im expecting those kinds of miracle!

Lots of Umming and Ahhing going on here!

Thanks for the help so far, awesome :)

I'm not that knowledgeable with monitors, so someone else might come along soon who is. :p

Although I do hear a lot of people banging on about that Yamasaki Catleap Q270 monitor..

Based in North Wales, how come? Cheers so far guys :) is the CPU enough to max out the GPU? Debating the k series for over clocking

Muchas gracias for all the help guys :) current stuff is advertised for sale now, Hoping to make the purchase within the next fortnight. Any further thoughts on the monitor as Im really just not sure if its worth it!
