Hi guys.

Got a 4k tv coming, currently have an i7 3830k I think it is at stock and 8gb with a HD7970 GPU.

How is a 7970 going to cope with 4k?
Will a 1080p look ok in a 4k tv or 1440p or will it be blurry? It's a samsung 49MU6470 tv.

If I did upgrade the graphics card what sort of card would I be looking at ? I generally do like graphics to be cranked up.

Thanks.

after many tests on my panels & testing my TV on my 1080Ti + 1800X @ 4.0

4k on just released games is mix of Medium/high/Very High for 60FPS

Older games are ok..

however on TV i found setting the PC display options to 1080 & game to 1080 On Ultra did actually look as good if not better for effects.

i would say

old games try 4K
New use 1080p

well as its pretty late in the Pascal life, you could just wait, 7970 will be fine on 1080 TV :)

depends if you want MAX settings or not

Definitely time for an upgrade.

1080ti will do a fairly good job at 4k probably about the same as your 7970 at 1080p where some new games you can max out but most need settings turning down.

1080ti is fine for 4k. Of course you have to sometimes turn down a few options, but you won't even notice those. To the person saying that it often looks as good at 1080p, I would imagine that's because you're sitting further away from the TV than you would be from a monitor (even allowing for size). With my 55" TV, if I sit far back then I agree, most of the resolution is lost, but if you come closer then you can tell a huge difference.

Exactly. I’m sitting about 5-6 foot away from my 55” 4K TV and I can see individual pixels when displaying native 4K.
1080p from that distance is just a blurry mess although 3200x1800 + FXAA looks quite alright.

I got the Asus 27" 4k sitting at desk length away.

And TV with 10 foot away

Some games just don't look at any different
Shadow of war for example
4k medium/high and ultra textures. Looks very much the same as 1080p maxed out.

Depends on the game..

For example overwatch 4k epicvs 1080 epic is huge difference.

If your dropping to medium in games lot of the time you miss out a lot if the detail and effects
