Hello,

Fancy a change and I am at heart a AMD fan. Just wondered if the 8320 is worth while move from my current i3 3220? Pc is currently used for a little bit of gaming, photo editing and general use.

Also noticed there is now a 8320e. Only difference I can see between them is that the 8320e runs at a slightly lower speed and uses less power, is this correct?

Will this work below and overclock at all? Going to be using my existing memory for this hence just cpu and board.

Seriously no.

Considering you already got a Z77 board, you should just grab 2nd hand 2600K/2700K/3770K and it would be faster than the FX8 in games and applications that would use up to 8 threads/CPU cores, and utter destroy the FX8 in games that use 4 cores or less (or other light-threaded general applications).

With that said, looking at your system spec, I would actually upgrade the graphic card first. I seriously doubt you would see too much of benefit upgrading the CPU with the 7770 hold the system back.

Nothing wrong with being an AMD fan ....

What is driving you to want to change?

The quickest change you could make would be an new GPU

Have a look at this link about the new E chips

If you are going to change to AMD then look at a 990 board if you can, also the above link is also true in reverse as from a coast point of view just finding another Intel chip may be a cheaper option.

What PSU do you have ?

From a performance point of view, it'd probably be the wrong choice to jump to AMD from a Z77 set up, you'd be much better off just upgrading the CPU to an existing i5/i7.

That said, you've also got a weak GPU as is, however your current combination is a good match (Albeit lower end)

Tbh im not sure what is driving the change, I just fancy trying something new I suppose and it's been a while since I have owned a AMD chip. I don't game loads (20-30 minutes here and there)and what I do play I find this card handles them all ok, so is it worth the money going on a card?

PSU is a Antec 850/60 watt modular power supply. Was an ocuk replacement for my old 500w psu which broke and they couldnt replace it with a like for like swap.

Does anyone have any experience on the 8320e?

if you're gonna spend £150 on your rig, best idea is to sell your i3 and 7770, then with the combined funds, buy a second-hand i5 2500k/3570k and a second-hand 7950/70/280(x) off the bay

you'll see a nice hefty jump in fps that way

From a performance point of view, there's no point jumping from Z77 to an FX8320 set up.
Sounds like you've just got an itch, itch it with AMD if you want, but it's not the logical option.
