Morning all,

I built my PC around this time last year. I have an i5 3570k which is at 4.5ghz, 8GB 2133mhz and an Asus 7950 DCUII Top. The CPU is watercooled, was planning to do the GPU as well, but never got round to it.

So, I am in a saving scheme at work which pays out in another couple of weeks, is it worth me upgrading my GPU? All I do on the PC is game and surf the net (occasionally watch films/TV). My monitor is not the greatest to be honest - an LG E2742 (1920x1080 & 1080p).

That's still a good card, and at 1080p I'd say it's not really worth upgrading. Have you overclocked the GPU at all, as it might be worth looking into/doing that to gain some extra performance :)

Upgrade to what though as the new cards are just slightly tweaked and more expensive rebrands of the 7000 series apart from the 290x when it finally releases.

I was thinking of the 7990 tbh, but I was thinking is it really worth it considering the cost and the monitor?

I have overclocked the card to 1050mhz.

Do I just save the money and perhaps this time next year change the monitor, GPU etc then?

Not worth upgrading at all. Your system is still pretty much top end. Sure you could get a slightly better video card, but you don't need one and certainly not at 1080p.

Yeah, been thinking about another 7950, but I would have to change the motherboard as well if I add a second graphics card.

The Asus is a bloody big card and I have an Asus Maximus V Gene and the one GPU covers all the PCI slots. So, I think to be realistic, a second GPU is out of the question as I would either have to change the M/B or sell the 7950 I have got and buy 2x smaller 7950's.

The monitor is a good idea though. Perhaps just leave the PC exactly as it is at the moment and get a decent 1440p monitor?
