current setup:

zalman reserator 1 x2 in series loop with new powerful pump.
i7 950 1366 @ 3.6
asus sabertooth x58
14gb ddr3

2x4gb 1866 ddr3 corsair
3x2gb 1600 ddr3 corsair

any other info let us know, looking for a new cpu and mainboard, intel but will concider AMD if its gonna give me a better bang for the buck. also wanna use existing memory and would like to keep with the reserators, they have lasted 10years and still working great.
 
You probably wouldn't want AMD with the reserators :p. The AMD might give you better bang for buck, but to get better performance than your i7 950, they'd need to be clocked at a level I really think you'd struggle with the reserators (As I'm also sure that's the reason you haven't taken your 950 higher)

Ivy would be a nice fit at 77W TDP, but due to them using TIM and not solder, I'm not quite sure how a 3770k would be heat wise.

2600K/2700k and a board you consider to be acceptable price wise is a pretty good option, although socket 2011 is your proper upgrade.

So, an i7 3820 and an X79 board are also on the cards.

Although, Haswell, if they use solder over TIM would probably be a very good option, due 1H 2013 AFAIK.

or maybe scrap the reserators and get a fan based cooler or corsair water cooling setup if thats gonna push my 950 to 4ghtz speeds?
 
Like I say, could always wait for Haswell parts, they might not have the heat issues, and they'd be better core for core over the 3820, as the 3770k is already.
 
What do you mainly use your system for? An i7 950 is still a very powerful cpu, i switched out a 4.2ghz i7 920 for the spec in sig, more of a sidegrade tbh. A decent air cooler and an oc to 4ghz would keep you ticking along nicely till haswell is released.
 
Not much really, air video transcoding, bit of far cry 3, I've now gone back to overclocking it, got it running at 3.8 at the mo, hitting the high 78c though, stable at 2 hours prime blend as we speak.
