Hi folks, upgrade time of the year again for me on Orange.

been with them for at least 10 years or so, but i either upgrade or start again yearly depends if they can upgrade me Free of charge.

Just rang them and there upgrade dept says £99 for N70 and £50 for 6680 on upgrade, did the normal route, "ask to speak to cancellation" dept. Now they offer both to me as upgrade free of charge.

Have a Samsung D500 at moment, always had Nokias before, prefer them, you get used to the OS, samsung was a BIG 12 month mistake for me but alas time is up.

I did have a 6600 the previous year and that was ok, big though.

Now, any difference in the N70 and 6680 apart from looks ? which one should i go for, at the end of the day, its nice to have all these great features but 9/10 we just use them to make, receive calls and text. Welll that is my main useage.

The N70 looks a bit nicer, but are they both pretty much the same, and pro's and cons, problems i should be aware of. Oh and what size memory does it have for mp3 both of them as i like to have some music with me when im walking my dog. Does it come with earphones etc ?

thank you everyone

n70 def. great phone, comes with earphones, great mp3 players. Newer n70 symbian OS. I've installed so many applications on my phone and i',m loving it, especially the MP3 picture tags. Stuck a 512mb card in there from moby memory and im sorted.

edit: Mine is on O2 though, my cousin has the orange version, which is nearly as good just labelled with orange and the Home Screen has got this annoying menu bar down the side of it, which i cant seem to get rid of.

N70 has a higher resolution camera, radio and more RAM.

The 6680 has a better keypad.

Apart from that, there's not much difference between the two phones. If they're both free, I'm definitely recommend the N70.

Both come with (crappy) headphones.

cheers guys, I remember Orange screwing up the 6600 with there menu bar, bless them for messing phones up. There may be a way to get rid of it.

cheers, N70 it is then.

PS: any good sites you can point me to for apps etc for when it arrives ?

only wau to get rid of it is flash to normal firmware, my local nokia repair place quoted me £20 for it, despite the fact they have done it for free previously, the ********. E-mail me : [email protected] once u have it an i'll send u some apps

best imaging software i have used to viewing and capuring images is def, PhotoRite SP Version 5.2.5. Quality for frames, effects, and so much quicker than the nokia n70 image viewer.

FExplorer (phone Browser)

sms-timer (always comes in handy)

Alarm Manager

Glass Firefox theme

IM+ Bluetooth messaging.

ring your local orange shop, i was quote £99 on the phone, but got it for £50 in the shop :)

I got quoted £99 when i rang up orange upgrades and she said i would be lucky to get one for cheaper. So i said i would rather change to another network and get it cheaper. They put me through to cancellations and they offered it me for £4.99 so glady snapped the N70 up. Delivery tommorrow or the day after. Cant wait.

Gibbo I shall be emailing to see if you wouldnt mind sending me the link to you apps for the N70.

Cheers

leonarmston,
That is exactly what i did and said, £100 upgrade so i said put me through to cancellation and she did, told them to cancell my contract and they then decided to give it to me free!. Anyhow it arrived today and in the last hour has been switched on with the SIM. I tell you what though, i have 7 days cooling off period. Used to have a samsung D500 and from turning it on to being able to make a call was about 15 seconds, This N70 seems to take ages, about a minute, turn it on,,,,,,,,,wait to put PIN in........Then eventualy it gets to main screen.

Why is it so slow, Im on orange, is it because of all the app's in it, i remember my Nokia 6600 being slow as well. Okay the N70 is a nice phone, (saw the 8800 today lovely), but the speed of the N70 is not as quick as i would like it to be. I suppose you get used to it, but im sure some of you out there know what i mean.

Okay,,,,,

How do you get rid of the Orange branding (menu bar right hand side,) a little unfair they deicde what YOU want on YOUR phone. Searched the www and it seems to be a V huge problem with Orange

only way to get rid of that is either to get the firmware reflash to normal nokia firmware, most nokia service centres will do it, at a cost of £20 though. Only other solution i have found is to start the phone in safe mode by keepin ya finger on the button with the pencil logo whilst switching the phone on.

To all those people who e-mail me: I will upload the zip file up later tonight and send u the link
