Currently have a BFG 280GTX and im thinking of selling it and putting the funds towards a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5970 OC. This card would have to be my last upgrade till 2011 and beyond, as ive got to buy other important things in 2010 like a new motorbike and a holiday in thailand:D
Anyway my questions is:

1) How much better is the 5970 to my 280GTX?

2) Can it fit in my AKASA 62 ECLIPSE Case?

3) will my rig a dual core setup hold it back at all?

The HD5970 is about 25% more faster than a GTX295 so I guess that the GTX280 will be like 45-50% under it.I think that the case is too small for this card and even if it will fit it will have very low airflow.@ question 3....it depends what CPU you have if you have. However if its one of the E8xxx series and its clocked to 3.8-4.0Ghz then no.

It would be quite an upgrade, however, most reviews have said you will not notice any difference from any other high end card unless you are using 2+ screens when gaming. Reason being, all high end cards, last gen or this will run all games at high res with eye candy turned up on a single screen and you won't notice the difference between 150fps or 200 with the new card.

No point buying a better graphics card right now nothing will give much noticeable benefit visually over an GTX280 (which would not fetch much more than £120ish secondhand now anyway). Get a CPU upgrade either Quad Core or Core i7 then in a year your 280 will still run current games ok and newer gfx cards will be faster & cheaper!

Sure upgrade, just remember to sell me your 280gtx for pennies.

Seriously though, are you actually having any problems running any games with your current gpu?

Some people really love to waste money. Not worth the upgrade at all.

Most people do in some way or another.

Some people like going out every week and piddling a significant amount of money up the wall going out drinking.

Some people waste an awful lot of money on smoking, etc.

Although if I hadn't got my own card for the actual RRP at release I wouldn't be paying over the odds for one now, they are taking the michael at the moment.

Coming off 4870x2, the increase that I saw from 5970 is huge in every sense of the word, the card is also a LOT more quieter, then again I purchased Antec 1200 just for the card and I run a [email protected], but nonetheless, I reckon get the card and upgrade to I7 after Jan when the prices are at their lowest.
