Upgrade time. Worry about socket burn with OcUK 4GHz i5 bundle?

Hi there - first post, so hello!

Had a nice big overclock back in the PIII coppermine days (650 @975 for years air-cooled), but since then have had AMDs that haven't responded well at all and haven't really bothered. Now looking to upgrade my system and am quite interested in an overclocked i5. In particular the 4GHz water cooled CPU/ram/mobo bundle from OcUK looks like a great package barely costing any more than the individual standard parts added up. My knowledge is stuck back in PIII days, so it suits me to have some pro's worry about the settings:).

However, I've become aware of the socket burn issue whilst reading around, but probably dont know enough to make a well informed decision. Hence my question is do you guys think it's an issue worth worrying about with this particular 4GHz bundle? I believe the Gigabyte UD5 mobo supplied may be one with the vulnerable Foxconn socket, but other than that I dont know if the risk is worth worrying about. Should I go down a different path?

Any opinions/advice appreciated. Cheers for your time,

Liam

Well the Overclocked bundles are checked and tested e.t.c and tbh i dont think they would send you one which has burn problems....If that does occur then simply ring OCUK and they will im guessing replace it as you have warranty ;)
As for the foxconn socket....I dont think any of the new made motherboards are having the problem anymore as i think it was just the first batch of 1156 boards...I may be wrong though

OK thanks - I'll probably go ahead and get the bundle:) So do OcUK actually give a warranty for the OC'd bundles then? I mean surely the manufacturers is out of the window (well at least Intel's for the CPU), so are OcUK covering you out of the goodness of their own hearts?? Seems even better value if they do - I had assumed you'd be using a CPU like that at your own risk.

Cheers,

Liam

I would give OCUK a call first to check...And as for manufacture warranty that would still be intact as Intel wont know you have overclocked....
