Upgrade time?

Hi,

I have some problems deciding whether to upgrade now or later. My current system is:

X800XT AGP
AV8-3rd Eye (939)
2GB Geil PC3200
Athlon64 3000 (939)

I was originally thinking of upgrading when the AM2 comes out, but after seeing that there is not much of an increase of performance, I am rethinking about upgrading now.

If I sold my current parts ( - the RAM and maybe the CPU until a later date), I could put this money towards my upgrade and get a PCI express mobo + an X1800XT for example.

I hope you're still following as its quite hard for me to explain :p

So basically, if I choose to wait until AM2 comes, will it be much harder for me to sell my parts?

Well I need some advice here - if what i've said made any sense at all. :)

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also, whats going on with the post counts? :p

Just wait till the AM2 comes out and then get an (939) opteron 165/170/175/180 for a lot less than it is now.
Plus 2GB (DC) of any speed ram
And X1800 / X1900 / GF7900
plus a nice mobo to go with it

And you will still get a good price for your old gear if you put it on Fleebay

Waiting till AM2.. no point. Conroe however.. that will blow any current CPU out of the water. It wont be harder to sell your parts when AM2 is released, you just won't be able to get as much for them. But tbh, I'd say sell up now and get a dual core and x1800.

IMO, either wait to see what happens with Conroe or AM2 or upgrade right now.

Looking at your current spec for gaming your biggest bottleneck will be your gfx card.

I doubt it - more likely the prices will go UP!!

Look at what happened to AGP!

Once a socket becomes outdated the prices often dont fall - they go up because they know they can fleece the customer for the "convenince" of staying with what they already have.

They know that people would rather upgrade just one component if they can - rather than having to change the motherboard too.

AGP is a good example - it costs far more to buy the equivalent AGP card, than it does to buy the PCI-E version.

I'd suspect the same will happen with 939 and AM2.
