PC starting to feel a bit sluggish so im after an upgrade. Formatted not so long ago and im looking at a max of £200. Looking at new cpu/mobo. wondering what performance increase I would get with any suggestions. Current spec as follows:

e6600 C2D at 3100Mhz
Asus P5N-E SLi
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
GeIL 2GB PC2-6400C4
600w PSU

Thanks to any comments ;)

To be honest, that system shouldn't be sluggish.... only thing I might upgrade at this point would be the Mobo.

Though you list "600W PSU" - what PSU is it exactly?

Oh, and what OS you running?

I know, it shouldn't be sluggish. :(

Its a Seasonic S12 600W PSU and I'm running XP.

The weak link in the spec seems to be the Mobo. It was part of a upgrade on a tight-ish budget.

it will depend on what you do, for encoding it will be quicker provided you are using multithreaded software, for gaming probs not much as most games are not multithreaded

X-Fi and some nice 5.1 speakers?

if that doesnt appeal to you then save your money, its not worth it just for the sake of spending money, wait for penryn to come.

I would upgrade your boot Hard Drive, Thats an Old Drive now and IDE Based, a faster SATA drive should increase overall system preformance, something linke a Western Digital AAKA Based Drive :)

New SATA drive and a fresh install of windows is what you need. Samsung or WD, or a raptor if you're feeling flush.

Get 2, and stick the page file on the second drive.

The cinergy 2400i DT (Terratec) is a very good tv card

Dual DVB-T, Dual Freeview tuner and video recorder. PCI Express and widows vista certified.
