Thinking of doing a bit of an upgrade and would like people's views on what I have come up with:

upgradext2.jpg

Monitor: I have a 19" Hyundai Imagequest atm and want a cheap but good upgrade. Heard mixed things about the OCUK value monitor but thinking of taking the plunge, worth it?

HDD: Got 3 250GB's atm. Want to get a 640GB now and a 1TB later on so I will only have those 2. Was going to wait for the sumsung 640GB but these look just as good... are they?

Case: Had a Coolermaster Caviler for ages then bought a Thermaltake Soprano from a mate for a tenner. Now that summer is on it's way my Q6600 is getting slightly toasty and I want more cooling. Have been looking at the 1200 since last year but if someone can show me a better case for the same price please do! Lights don't bother me but don't need them either... Noise would be nice to be quiet-ish but doesn't need to be completely silent

Fan: Have a Noctua NF-S12 on my Thermalright Ultra-120A atm but with the new Noctua "CPU P12" fans out I was going to get one of them and use the S12 as the side fan on the 1200... worth the money or just get a cheap 120mm?

Cheers very much in advance, Doug.

If you dont care much about your components noise, Thermaltake Shark is best cooling and practical wise case I've ever had. Tons of space, drives mounted sideaways ( = more space + makin stuff more tidy), it's light, and it stays VERY cool.

Also get 750 spinpoint F1 hdd.
no idea about monitor, I wouldnt buy 24" unless you got something like 9800GX2, 4gb of good ram and Q6600 @ 3.6ghz+.

Cheers for the replies!

Have decided that I really like the 1200 so will be getting that me thinks. Have been watching it since June last year and I think for me not to get it I will be a bit gutted... just hope it as good as I think it's going to be! :D

HDD: The only reason I was going to get the WD 640GB is becasue it's two 320GB platters isn't it? I thought the Samsung 750GB was more of the low density platters? Was going to wait for the Samsung 320GB or get the WD 320GB but cba to wait for Samsung and the WD got bad reviews... anyone care to tell me differently?

Monitor: I only have a X850XT PE atm but not really gaming on the PC atm... Got my 360 for that (GTA IV) but when I do want to start gaming on the PC I will be buying one of the new GFX cards out in a few weeks ;) Mainly just want a bigger and better monitor than the one I have... Is the 24" OCUK budget that monitor?

Fan: Looking for advice on this really... Is it worth me changing the Noctua NF-S12 I have on my CPU cooler already for the new Noctua NF-P12? Someone mentioned 5c difference back along and if that's the case I might be able to squeeze an extra few MHz out of my Q6600... especially with my new case :D

Cheers again, Doug.

Im pretty sure the 1TB spintpoints are 3x ¬340mb.
I think the 750 is 2 as well. Not like it matters much anyways, the're great drives. I've got same one myself.

Well read around and the only drives that SEEM to have the dense platters (which makes the drives faster) are the 320GB, 640GB and the 1TB HDD's.

If I was going to go for a 1TB drive it would be the Samsung's but can't afford that atm so it has to be the 320GB or the 640GB... Samsung's 640GB is more expensive atm than the WD and I thought they would be the same performance wise?

Cheers again, Doug.

K got everything sorted that I want just need to know if the Noctua NF-P12 will make any sort of difference in temps compared to the Noctua NF-S12?

From what I have read it might just wondering if someone can confirm this?

Thanks again, Doug.

i would have to agree with some of the others who say the spinpoint F1 is a better choice of HDD. read loads of reviews showing that it is a superior bit of kit :-)

Dagnabit!

So what most people are saying is to chose HD642JJ over the WD6400AAKS?

I've looked at the two in benchmarks and they look the same speed, same sort of noise and same length warranty...

Always thought WD was one of the best but I take it Samsung are now the top dog?

Ahhhh my head is about ready to explode and I want to order this tonight :o

Edit: Also, anybody got any views on the fan...?
