Gonna buy a new graphics card but unsure, im either gonna go for these 2:

BFG GeForce GTX 280 OCX
HIS ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

Ive currently got a BFG 8800gtx OC2, its great still, but ive got the upgrade bug:)

My motherboard supports PCI Express 1.1 not 2.0 will the new graphics card be held back by quite a lot?

I'm in the same boat with my motherboard. From the reading I've done on a good few sites it appears there is little to no difference between 1.1 and 2.0 when using current GFX cards as they currently aren't even hitting the bandwidth potential of 1.1 yet. Unfortunately I don't have a 2.0 compatible board to test it.

If anyone has anymore info on the subject I'd like to know also, as I'm considering buying a GTX280.

surely you should have just got the cheapest 280 and overclocked it?

only reason i have a bfg ocx card is because it was cheap on the mm

you can easily surpass any factory overclock using rivatuner

look at this for an example

my bfg 9800gtx ocx is sitting at 810/2000/2500

compare that with what the card does as standard
- Core running at 755MHz
- Shader Clock 1890MHz
- Memory 2300MHz

or the standard 9800gtx clock speed
- Core running at 675MHz
- Shader Clock 1688MHz
- Memory 2200MHz

ok so you have a warrenty for the factory overclock
but will you really have this card in over 2 years time?
if you got the cheapest 280 you would have saved yourself nearly £100 and im sure you could have got near if not past the bfg performance

Same card as me, was gonna suggest holding onto the 8800GTX for a few weeks but since realised you've just ordered a new card - enjoy ;)

Ill be keeping it a lot longer than that, with my change in circumstances;)

Well its arrived and its big:D

Anyway ran 3dmark06 and i got 13067, not as high as the above posters predicted, should i be getting this score?

My previous score with my old card BFG 8800GTX OC2 was 11919 so i havent had a very big increase at all.

Just ran 3dmark vantage and got 8301.
