2900 --> 4850 x-fire

Ok a friend at work keeps going on about getting 2 x saphire 1GB 4850's and doing x-fire, which i myself am tempted to do personally, hes got a 2900xt 512mb, how much of a general performance increase you think he'd see with these cards in x-fire over his rustic 2900 ?

P.S. This is so i can tell him so he'll finally stop talking about it :p

Check out guru3d site for a set of GPU performance tables which will show you how much of an increase it will be.

Save your money, go for a single 1GB 4870 if you going down ATI route. If you need more power, bag a second for crossfire later on.

Sorry to butt in, but In the new year I might upgrade my graphics card from a 3870 to a 4850, how much speed boost will I gain? I would get a 4870 but I prefer to keep the power and heat to a minimum.

I prob dont need a new card yet cos all the latest games still run nice and smooth at med to high detail, plus I might be downgrading my monitor from a 20" ws to a 19" normal, cos Ive seen a real bargin on the bay.
