Right I have posted a few post of these recently but im really undecided on what to get.
I have come to a conclusion of what I want and I feel is good enough for what I need.
I have made a spreadsheet of costs of where is cheapest.
Use will be for Gaming / Light Photoshop / Light / Movies / Music / Downloads

Keeping CD / Hard Drive from current machine.

My aim is to overclock to 4GHz on either chip.

AMD SETUP:

CPU - AMD 965 3.4Ghz C3
Cooler - Noctua NH-U12P SE2
MB - Asus Crosshair III Formula
RAM - Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GBCMD4GX3M2B1600C8
GPU - Asus 5770 1GB
GPU - Asus 5770 1GB
PSU - Corsair HX650 Modular
Case - Fractal Design Define R2

Total (inc. vat/delivery): £825.09

Bonus of AMD setup is that its £25 cheaper, Full 16x lanes in crossfire

INTEL SETUP:

CPU - Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz
Cooler - Noctua NH-U12P SE2
MB - Asus P7P55D Deluxe
RAM - Corsair Dominator 4GBCMD4GX3M2A1600C8
GPU - Asus 5770 1GB
PSU - Corsair HX650 Modular
Case - Fractal Design Define R2

Total (inc. vat/delivery): £757.64
Total (inc. vat/delivery) crossfire: £853.39

Bonus for Intel setup: Easier overclock, lower power consumption.

What do you chaps recon?

If its for gaming they'll both perform similarly, though I would recomend you try and get a hold of a 5850 if you can, rather than 2 x 5770's, then if you need to at a later date you can add a 2nd 5850, if you start with 2 x 5770's you dont really have anywhere to go

tbh nowadays its the worst time to upgrade your graphics since amd has no competition yet and are increasing prices. if you can geta temporary GC then upgrade when fermi comes our then itl be the best Price vs performance.

with the cpus, go for i5

Many thanks. I can get the 5850 for £191 on pre-order. Is it worth it?

However 95trifles stated fermi will be out soon, and I can get a temp GC 5770 for £95.
