Sorry about the question.. But I've been out of the loop for quite a bit now..

I am wanting to upgrade from a 4870 1gb card, with a budget of about £200. (I could stretch a little further, but only if it's really worth it.)

I would prefer to go with ATI, but for no real reason, so if there is an nVidia card that is much better for the money, I would happily go for that.

Anyway, thanks for any and all help.

Cas. :)

If you prefer ATI then should be able to get the 5850 for about that price right about now as the price comes down with the competition provided by the GTX460.

5850 is just starting to fall in price because of the GTX460. If you want to buy a 5850, I would suggest hold out for couple more weeks to let the price 5850 to settle.

But in my opinion, your 4870 1GB should still be 'ok' for most games. If I were in your position, I'll try to make do with the 4870 for now and upgrade when the 2nd gen dx11 cards are out.

Or if your motherboard and PSU support crossfire, try to grab a cheap 4870 1GB to crossfire. I will be pretty much up there with the speed of 5870.

An HD4870 should still be more then 'ok' for most games out there the only cards that would struggle are the512Mb versions.

The 5850 is the logical choice for that sort of budget, a couple of places are now flogging it for it's original £200 RRP so hopefully OCUK should respond in kind very shortly and hopefully with better cards as well. The beauty of the HD5850 is it can be overclocked and will give you the performance of the mighty HD5870 and a lot of people have clocked it further which has resulted in even better performance then a stock HD5870. Not bad for a £200 card.

Hmm, thanks guys..

I wouldn't have a problem waiting for the next gen of cards, if I was to get a chunk more for my money. Thanks for the help people :)
