I'm currently running a 4870 1gb, and wondered if a 6850 would be a good upgrade? Or is the performance of a 6870 worth the extra money? Considering I would have to get the 6870 a month later. I'm also on 1920x1200 res, don't really play many games on the PC, only WoW.

Thanks,Cas.

Do you intend to play a lot of games in future?, either card is good, i'd go for the 6870 as it's faster and faster always = best :) but if your just playing WOW why upgrade at all unless your current card does not play it well, and if memory recalls a 4870 is fine for WOW

If you are only playing Wow - this review shows how the 6850 performs. The 5770 is also shown in that test - which performs at about the level of a 4870.

If you are having performance issues I suggest instead going for a GTX 460, as it tends to perform better (in WoW) and costs similar money.

However, the performance boost is not massive and the money outlay is quite a bit. If you can afford a 6870 a month later - then you may want to go for a GTX 470 instead. Looking at that review it does really well and costs about the same as a 6870 (this one is £188).

May I ask what CPU you are using?

Thanks for the help so far, I'm using the AMD tri-core 720 CPU OCed to 3.5ghz.

I may play other games, but I only really play MMO's on the PC.

Do you think it would be wise upgrading the Graphics card? Or should I upgrade the CPU instead? Problem is, I can still only really get to £200. Anything more and I would really struggle.

Seeing as the cheaper GTX460 1GB is about on par with a 6870 in WoW, get this or this both at an amazing price, overclock it for beastly performance.

CPU is fine.

That is a nice price! Would a GTX 470 be worth the extra money? As that one at £188 should just about be in reach this month, if it's worth it.

The GTX 470 was an absolute steal when Overclockers sold it for £175 a few days ago, it's not so much now.

If you don't mind the extra heat, power consumption and potential noise, then yes the the GTX 470 is worth it, however if you're going to spend that much you may want to look at the HD 6870 which can be had for £178.22 if you look around.

A 460 clocked to 800 or more core will match a 470/6870 for performance, the cards in the links will run super cool and quiet even when overclocked to the max, same can't be said of a 470 with a reference cooler. Taking all this in to account I would 100% go 460 and overclock it. As said Nvidia cards seem to have better performance in WoW so I would rule AMD out.

Thing is, WoW isn't all I ever player, it's just the main thing. I can afford £200ish, so I think I'd rather get the absolute best I can with that money. Is the GTX 460 still best to get? Or is the 6870/GTX 470 worth the extra money? I'll be able to order whichever I decide on straight after work today.
