Upgrade time

Hey guys i am trying to upgrade my ram does anyone have some reccomendations as to what is the best/most compatible ram,seems to be a big minefield as what will work on my board.
Main use is for arma 2 oa and a bit of graphics work,

asus rampage extreme ddr3.
ocz or corsair preference.

The QVL for RAM on the newer ASUS boards are undesirable to say the least, your best bet would be to buy RAM as close to the specs you want, check the QVL, if its their then go for it, if not, take a gamble. If it doesn't work, the worst that will happen is you have to send it back for a refund.

I had to get some low profile memory as I got a FRIO cooler which cuts off the first slot on my Crosshair Formula IV, I wanted 8GB in 2 DIMMS (so 2x4GB) also so I had to get some Corsair XMS3. I had two choices, 8Gb (2x4GB) XMS3 @ 1333MHz or 1600MHz. Neither were on the QVL so I got the 8GB and it worked fine.
 
I dont really know what spec ram does what,i only buy on reccomendation all i know is that corsair and ocz high end ram are the market leaders.
Now do i go with 4 x 2gb sticks or 2 x 4 gb sticks which is fastest/best i have no idea,i did try ram guy but others say not too.

All the gear no idea lol.
