current spec
i5 2400
cheapest asus motherboard available
4gb crucial ballistix (1 dimm broke)
amd 6850 ocuk/asus overclocked version been overclocked more aswell
win 7 pro 64bit
no working optical drive
cheapy fan controller and cheapy fans
2 old seagate 160gb hdd one 7200.8 one 7200.10
monitor is an old lg 22" 1680x1050 res screen/tv i like this and probably wont change it for a while.
I mainly use it for surfing web, constructing e-learning packages including video editing but mostly for playing battlefield and skyrim.
In the long run i would like to have an i5 3570k ivybridge with a nice overclock and a motherboard capable of running xfire 6850's and have a 1tb data drive and ssd boot/game drive. Water cooled in the new nzxt switch 810.
Obviously i will be buying an optical drive only need a cheap one and i do want to have more ram and i noticed quite a large performance drop when 1 4gb dimm failed, i would like a minimum of 8gb.
Im also very tempted to get an ssd right away but my current cheapy motherboard doesnt have sata 3 (6gbps) and i cant afford to buy everything that i want right away. So would i be able to use my i5 2400 sandybridge on a z77 board and which z77 should i get. also which ssd the crucial m4 seems to be the most popular but has there been a recent successor that is in the same price range (120/128gb). Also is there a better 1tb hdd than the latest seagate drives, are the newest hitachi deskstars better and how are they in terms of noise levels.
Sorry about the essay in terrible english. Any advice appreciated apart from grammer nazi's
