Upgrade time

A new graphics card.
An Ivy Bridge with a Z77 motherboard.
A SSD with Windows 7 64-bit.

Any of the above will do :)

P.S. - What is the system used/wanting to be used for?

swap out the core 2 duo for a core 2 quad and overclock? Install a 64bit operating system, and upgrade your graphics card. A 6850 would be a good choice as mentioned above.

depending on the funds you have available, you may want to consider retiring your PC and building a new one. Since if you were to upgrade the cpu and graphics card, in a year or two you would want to upgrade the cpu to a more current one, which would mean that you need a new motherboard and new RAM, and then thats the entire guts of the system changed... You might just want to retire it to server status or folding or just as a spare, and build a new PC. Sandy or ivybridge, ddr3 ram and a decent current gen graphics card.

No running windows 7 pro 64bit unsure of power supply and case at movement but it's suitable for that board will prob nee changing , defiantly the psu. Use it for lts of iTunes Internet and the od go on fsx

If it's just the odd go on FSX then I'm sure an Ivy Bridge processor as well as a Z77 motherboard will be the most futureproof for you. Perhaps you could get a new graphics card too. As mentioned above, upgrading to the current generation will benefit you more than upgrading to the same generation.

A single RAM stick?

Wouldn't a dual channel kit offer better performance?

Also tall RAM and a large heatsink arent advisable.

Why buy a Bgrade GFX card when you can get a fast one for less - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-074-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1810
