Hi, I'm thinking it's about time to upgrade my PC

Current spec:
AMD Phenom II 965
ASRock 870 Extreme3 motherboard
PowerColor HD 6850
12 GB ram (G.Skill RipJaws)
Corsair TX650
1TB HDD
128GB SSD (Crucial M500)

...inside a CoolerMaster Centurion 5 II case.

I'm thinking of updating the cpu, mobo and graphics card to something like:
i5 4690k
AMD R9 280

Not sure about which motherboard yet. Also looking at getting a quiet CPU cooler as I've been using the stock one on my 965 for the past few years and it's very loud.

Can anyone give me some ideas to help me out? Looking at spending £400-450 at the beginning of next month. Thank you!

If you are going to ditch the current CPU+board, why buy a cooler for it? just sell it on with the stock item, let the next guy worry about if its loud or not.

But saying that you will most likely want an aftermarket cooler for a new 4670K as the stock cooler is pants also.

Will you be overclocking the CPU? Regarding the heatsink, I got a Akasa Venom for my I5 2500K which overclocked to 4GHZ. It's probably overkill for my CPU but it's quiet and provides good cooling (I've probably had 2 crashes over the past 12 months after an intense gaming session. And even those I think were on Battlefield Betas!

Not sure about your choice of GFX card as I have never tried out the AMD's before.
