I've been looking at getting a few little upgrades to my machine, mainly aiming to keep things cool but also allow for some fairly aggressive overclocking. A new GPU is also on the menu.

So, my current machine is based on a i5-4670K CPU (not currently overclocked), a Z87 motherboard with 8GB of RAM (1600mhz), an Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure cooker, Superflower 650W (Gold rated) PSU and a R270X (which was only ever a temporary measure).

I only game at 1080p and was looking at a 970 but I don't really know what is happening in the GPU world in the short-term. As for the cooling options, I've never really had much of a clue - as I say, quiet and cool are my aims.

So, if I was looking at a total budget of around £400-500, what would the recommendations be?

For 1080P you need a GFX card such as a GTX970.

A GTX980 which you can afford will sort you out to 1440P and higher.

If you are after something genuinely quiet for CPU cooling then I'd be looking at the big air coolers. I think the D14 can be had for around £55 at the minute if you look around.
