Its finally time to get around to upgrading, thinking mobo and cpu would be the best place to start?

CPU: i5-2500k
Mobo: ASus P8Z68-V LX
RAM: 4x2gb Corsair Value 666mhz
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC ACX 3GB
PSU: Corsair CX750
Case: CM HAF 912
SSD: 128GB Corsair Force Series GS

Aiming to upgrade to an i7, and really need to replace the RAM. Planned to do this about a year ago but only just finally have the funds in place :D

Nope.

Just overclock your CPU.

Then wait till at least skylake comes out.

What do you use this PC for?

+1 also why the i7? Hyperthreading has negligible performance increase in games. And there's not a lot difference performance wise from Sandybridge to Haswell especially if you overclock that chip.

Spend some cash on a decent cooler for the overclock, then you can use it on your Skylake if need be..

It is already overclocked at 4.3, mainly gaming but also use it quite a bit for encoding video which is the main reason i was looking at switching to i7

If you dont have an SSD then get one.

Wait a few more months for skylake, unless maybe you can afford x99+5820K+16Gb DDR4.
