Mobo just failed on my i5 3570k, least that's my assumption...day before last came up with a "bad bios settings" but could still load up, today "cannot load windows due to boot device" and now just sits in a power cycle loop (fires up for a few seconds, off for a few, repeat).

What's a good bang for bucks upgrade option these days for a gaming system?

Already have a corsair 750w psu, 8gb ddr3, ssd &hdd and a r290. Would drop the ram for 16gb and/or ddr4 depending on the build/price, budget is in the £200-£300 range.

Thanks both, skylake sounds like a potentially better idea purely because it's the newer tech so "in theory" would last me another 4 years, even though from a brief search I'm not seeing huge gains with the 6600k over the 4690k.

Is there much point moving to ddr4? I'd be convinced to up the budget to allow for that move if there'd be an appreciable difference.

You could go skylake and reuse your ram or go ddr4 with a suitable board .

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £293.48

Just wanted to say thanks for your help, this is what I went with and have it all up and running now. Once jetlag wears off I'll start tinkering with OC'ing
