Hi all, i'm thinking about building a new pc. it has been a few years since my last build, and things have moved on quite a lot.

This is my current spec
i5 3570k @ 4.2Ghz, 5.17 turbo (oc on the motherboard, via the OC genie button)
MSI z77
Antec Mercury 360 AIO
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 16gb 1600mhz
Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme
Ocz zs 750w power supply
Antec p8 with Cooler Master vertical kit
Crucial BX200 960gb SSD
WD Black 1TB.

I would like to use my case and 360mm aio if poss.

things that I would like are..

2080ti
i9 9900k (or a cpu that is fantastic for gaming
mobo that holds 8 sticks of ram up to 4000mhz,and with a auto OC button
32bg of ram

poss other bits that i might need?

I would like this build to last a few years, what parts would you recommend please?

my monitor is a viewsonic 32" 2560x1440 144hz

what sort of budget would I need to build something please £2000?

thanks
ian

I would consider waiting until the release of zen 2 - as if it lives up to the hype this should have an impact on INTEL's ridiculous pricing structure or you may dip your toe in to Ryzen territory.

Read last few pages of this thread- Clicky - to get an idea (ignore the bitchy handbags at dawn crap).

In the mean time i would buy one of these in preparation as they're an amazing bargain (Basically a Seasonic Focus in slightly different housing):

My basket at Overclockers UK:

£2000 will get you the 2080 Ti, the 9900K, board and RAM. You'll need HEDT for 8 RAM slots, no idea why you would want or need that tbh.

i was just thinking 8 ram slots would future proof it more? but if its not needed, then a normal 4 ram slot board would be fine

You better wait for summer instead of paying Intelflated prices.
In CES AMD demoed Zen2 engineering sample matching 9900K in processing power at ~50W lower system power consumption.

And 8 core/16 thread is likely going to be sub £250 priced, with hundred more getting 12 cores/24 threads.

With Intel changing CPU sockets at BIOS level just for the fun of screwing consumers to butt there's no future proofing on Intel side.

Only future paying more.

Depends what you want it for fella.

I'd say if you are a casual gamer/interwebs dweller you could save a ton of money and either wait for the zen2 or just go for a 2700x now

i went from i5 6600k to 2700x im not astounded by it at all but it does have longer legs to last me awhile longer.

i did look at the 9900k but it would have meant spending another £200 more and i've already spent £1800 on a 2080 and Ultrawide monitor.

Hopefully i don't regret it but so far its handled everything and at 3440x1440 its got some work to do.

price wise for 2700x its £289 and a decent board £150-200 put that into context against the i9 at £489 just for cpu

if you cant wait till First week of July - and get your finger on the order button quickly as soon as reviews come out - and if they are cheaper then intel THEY will sell out quickly and prices will inflate

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,984.21 (includes shipping: £12.30)

more then enough muscle - even with ryzen 3000 coming out, would personally go for 8 core if it clocks the fastest. If there are 12/16 versions they'll have the same issue with infinity fabric as current ones.

aorus gpu with vertical mount looks stunning !
