Upgrade Time!

I've built every system I've owned for the past 20 years. Like many, I enjoy the process of spending countless hours configuring the "perfect" machine (for my needs), ordering all the parts, and then finally putting them all together - and then trying to figure out why the hell it won't boot! Ah, right - the PSU cable is unplugged...

I stick to a 4-year (give or take) upgrade cycle, which means I leapfrog generations when it comes to hardware. Currently, my Ryzen 5 1500X and GTX 1070 are showing their age, and I believe the time has finally come to move into the realm of 1440p goodness, so they need to go. As I ordered all my parts from OcUK last time, I'd love to use them again.

Enter: the current GPU drought. As a builder, the mere thought of buying something that was built by someone else sends shivers down my spine. The inability to not be able to select the exact case I want, exact RAM, exact mobo, etc, and then put it all together (adult Legos!) just doesn't sit well with me. And now, of course, even if I choose to buy everything separately like I normally do and build it myself, it kills me to know it's just going to sit there for months because every bot/scalper/miner snaps up every GPU as soon as it's put up for sale.

Luckily, OcUK have once again come to the rescue with their (according to positive community reviews, and the legacy of 8Pack) outstanding prebuilt systems - with GPUs! I'm willing to set aside my prejudices just for the sake of being able to upgrade now - but I'm finding the going a bit tough with the options I'm given.

I specifically want to go either Ryzen 5 3600 or 5600X (squeezing the last drop out of an EOL socket might be worth it, but that price, though...) and an RX 6800 (the improved headroom vs the 3070 just can't be ignored - and I'm back onboard the Team Red bus).

Closest I can get is:

But there's no option for a Radeon GPU!

There are different options that allow me to add an RX 6800 but that severely limit the rest of the options, though, eg:

Check the Customer Service part of the forums, there's a place for pre-sales queries.

I would be surprised if you couldn't just list them a complete list of parts from their store, and get a quote for a bespoke system built for you (to get access to the build-stock GPU's)

I'm currently waiting for a build to be completed, and have had very helpful responses in getting some of the parts exchanged with others that weren't available on the configurator.

If you want that better performance for that time, Zen3 architecture CPU has clear advantage over 2019's Zen2.
Especially if going for base level core count.
(remember that new consoles have seven Zen2 cores dedicated exclusively for games)

Those pre-buitl configs have also other things not so great for bang per buck.
Unless you really need PCIe v4 for something else than GPU, B550 board would be better than absolutely bottom X570 with stripped to minimum feature set with cut downs in USB prots etc.

And for bang per buck WD Blue SN550 would be the NVMe choise with 1TB drive priced at £87.

Cheers, just had a look, but it's marked as "Private".

Guess that's one of the issues - I can't even choose whether or not I want a B550 mobo instead of the overkill x570 listed.
