Just looking at what options are out there as I currently have a 13600K with 16GB of 8pack ram that runs a 4000mhz c17 and would like to move to 32GB though to move to 32GB bdie DDR4 may be expensive. I could look for an DDR5 motherboard and ram and sell the old stuff though outside doubling of the ram would the gain be minimal or a sidegrade?

I wouldn't want to spend a lot on this, just not worth doing what is equivalent to a platform upgrade. If you really do need the extra RAM then I'd just buy some cheap stuff, since the extra capacity will help far more than the speed in that scenario.

Just leave it alone. Do a full upgrade when you next change the platform (CPU and mobo)
The gains won't be significant to justify the outlay, considering you are paying even more money for a dead socket/platform.
I have to agree with this and the statement by Tetras.

OP, It's not worth the cost. Yes, it's nice to have more RAM but unless you're running into RAM usage limits with 16gigs, the performance improvement won't be very big.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I've not run into any memory problems except Firefox can chew though RAM up until 75%+ but then I end task every now and again and its fine. I mostly game (End task Firefox before hand) play older games/emulation and the most intesive game I've played recently was Final Fantasy 15/16, Resident Evil 7/8 and those run fine on 16GB.

I'll keep an eye out for a cheep 32GB DDR4 kit but will proberly leave it be as this system has been rock solid.
