Hi Guys,

I have a DS3 with 2x1GB GEIL ULL 6400 running at 933 5,5,5,15

I running Windows virtual server in order to do some study/testing and could do with more ram.

Any reason I shouldn't just get a similare matching kit and run 4x1GB GEIL ULL?

Many thanks in advanced

I've got 4Gb Geil on a DS4 so it should not be a problem. Obviously you can't gaurantee that the 2 set will run at those speeds though.

I'm sure there aren't any isseus running 4 single sticks in these boards?

I have a DS3R and I'm putting another 2gb Ballistix in next week.

Running 4Gb @ 920 Mhz 5,5,5,15 in a DS3 fine here. Only thing I had to change going from 2Gb to 4Gb was to bump up the NB up +0.1V.

Do I read that right ? In adding more memory, you had to increase the northbridge voltage ?

On some mobos, i have 4 x 1Gb Dominator at 1000, 5-5-5-15 in a 680i but already had my NB at 1.4

stable in vista 64, which hates memory.

Yes. Had to raise +0.1V from default otherwise was getting memory errors at those speeds.

Interesting. The other day, I decided to increase the multiplier on my QX6700 from 10 to 11 (from 2.66Ghz to 2.93GHz). Everything else the same. I ran memtest to be sure, expecting of course that everything would be fine. But I got an error on test 6 !! Surprised me, it is not CPU related, I wondered if the higher multipler had placed extra stress on the northbridge perhaps. Relaxing the memory timings made it OK again, but I went back to stock while thinking about it. I'm going to try again, and see if a slight bump in the NB volts gets rid of the error. I'm reluctant to the do that permanently because the 650i NB runs hot enough as it is, but it will be interesting to know.
