Thinking of upgrading from a gtx 570 to a 780.
Obviously there will be a big jump in performance but will the rest of my system bottneck it.

i5 2500k @4.5ghz
8gb ram

Also is it worth waiting for the new amd cards as i can get an msi gaming edition for £470 which seems to be the cheapest about.

I Play at 1920x1080 so is this overkill. Dont wanna have to upgrade for a few years

Nah your CPU is good, even better that you've got it overclocked.

At that res you will be able to max everything with a 780.

Waiting for the new AMD cards is something you have to decide on yourself really. Do you like and play games with PhysX? Use TXAA or lightboost monitor etc etc.

I would wait 1 more month since you still have a good graphics card.

Agree with this.

GPU will only get cheaper, if you don't need the upgrade now you may get a better deal in the next couple of months when the impact of AMD launch is known.

4 years ago the GTX280 was the top Nvidia card, the GTX780 is due a price drop

I ran a 780GTX with a 4.5Ghz 2500k and there was no issues at all. Even adding another 780 for testing did not cause any issues.

But a 780 for 1080p is madness tbh. You will be bottleknecked by your monitor unless you are running 120Hz+.

If you intend to stay at 1080p save yourself a fortune and go with a 670 or 7950 both of which easily have a good few years at 1080p and are less than half the price of a 780.

The boys are right and only you can decide that. I just made the jump to 780s and I love them. If you wait for new AMD cards or buy a 780 either will last you a good while and will both be roughly the same power-wise I would say. I know its under-utilized but I think PHYSX really adds to the experience and makes metro ll and borderlands 2 better games for it. Both batman games also made nice use of physx. I loved my 7970s as well though so you will be good whatever you choose. I went for the MSI twin frors as well and they are sexy as hell.

If you were @ 1440P or planning 1440P soon I would def recommend the 780 but as you're on 1080P you might find a 7950 / GTX 670 would be enough of a jump. Some stonking deals on those cards atm. I would be tempted to go that route and then in a couple years get whatever is best bang for buck again. This time next year GTX 780's could be £299 :p

Cheers for the feedback. Think I will wait for the amd cards. Mainly hoping for a price drop as I do like physx in borderlands 2. Arkham origins and splintercell are 2 games that I'm intrested in also so made the deal a little sweeter which is why I was being impatient. Not sure how long these will be bundled for.
