Definitely going for the DS3 and some PC6400. Going to run the ram at 400 1:1 so looking at 2.8 and 3.2GHz on the 6300 and 6400 respectively.

Questions are:

Will it be worth spending the extra £30 for the 6400?
and
Am I pretty much guaranteed those clocks on the two cpus?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I would be happy with 3.2GHz, in fact 2.8 tbh.

I hear about 6300 getting to 3GHz+ all the time, never heard much about the 6400s.

I chickened out of the order at the last minute.

I'm thinking of swapping the E6300 and PC6400 for an E6400 and PC5300. It works out cheaper.

I know this will be faster at stock but will the PC5300 limit my overclocks in any way?

edit: what I'm trying to ask is will running the RAM on a divider impact the performance? and if so by how much?

Okay then, so the consensus is an E6300 over the E6400.

What about the RAM? Would the PC5300 limit the overclock to 2.8GHz and would it be faster at this speed with PC6400?

Will any old PC6400 RAM do the job?

I'm not bothered about going above 2.8GHz. I'd like to leave a little headroom for stability/longevity.

edit: just noticed the C4 in Cob's post. So any CAS 4 stuff then? will 4-4-4-15 do?
