Finally upgraded in a rural village and been moaning for years to get an upgrade as on an old adsl max exchange with 1.5mb.

Went for the upto 38mb down and 9.5 up option as the initial speed estimate was up to 49mb. As the initial estimate was 27-49 I’d thought I’d err on the side of caution as you can upgrade but not downgrade on the packages.

Looking at the router stats says the max attainable is 58 down and 15 up and currently sync at 39.9mb down 9.99mb up

I know you need to wait a couple of weeks for it to settle, and so far the performance is amazing is it worth the extra £5 to try my luck and upgrade and hope I can get closer to the 50mb down.

Your attainable rates will probably drop as more people in your area sign up.

As it is at the moment you'd shouldn't have any problem achieving at least 50Mbps.

It’s a pretty new cabinet as I know there’s about 12 houses in the village with it enable now, not many seem interested in it.

I’m happy with the speed we have at the moment downloading BF1 at 5 MB/sec

You will suffer from crosstalk eventually, which reduces your max attainable speeds, as more people sign up in your area on the cab.

I originally signed up on my new build estate of ~200ish houses to FTTC on the 80/20 package, I was achieving full speeds constantly. My attainable was something like 85/25.

After about a year, my sync dropped to 65/18 due to crosstalk, but has stayed put since the last 2 years... *touch wood*

Hoping we get a G.fast or FTTP roll out, yeah right! :(

I think I’m too far away for gfast to be any good I know another couple of houses in the village got activated today.

My connection dropped today to add g.inp on the line, will have to keep and eye on it for another few weeks as it might be worth trying the upgrade.
