Hi there, looking for some advice from experts. My first instinct is to put a 1070 (maybe the Ti) in this and I think it should be good to go.

Not wanting to drop a ton of money on this, £400 in parts max (hoping to flog some old gfx cards to part fund). The machine runs fine as it is, but I need it to be VR ready... I have read a few posts elsewhere saying the CPU should be ok, but I wanted to check with the experts.

Asus P8z77-V LX Motherboard
i5 3470 @ 3.2GHz (Ivy Bridge 1155 LGA)
16GB DDR3
GTX770 (4GB)

I have another matching GTX770 (ran them in SLI on my own PC) and an HD7970 to sell to part fund as I mentioned.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

What PSU are you using for it?

Also the 3470 will as you have read be "ok" but it won't be phenomenal. But reading this, i don't believe that's what you are after so you are golden with it.

The 1070 is an awesome GPU and with most VR games being quite simplistic graphically i believe it will be a great match as it will get you well into those 90+fps requirements for minimising motion sickness. :)

You could also, providing your PSU is OOOOOooomph enough, consider a second hand card like the 1080 that would be some what easily acquirable with your £400 budget. :)

I've seen the evga non blower 1070ti going for 360 new. Seems like it would be ideal for vr.

Like harry said, you could also look at second hand for a 1080

PSU is ok, it’s a 750w and only a couple of years old. I never scrimp on the PSU. I’m not sure I want it just be ok cpu wise either...might see if I can squeeze the budget a bit more thinking about it. Will take a look at cpu options...

Have you checked what the latest cpus your board can handle on the latest bios update:) im not 100% up to date with intels messed up product names/lines

Ok now I have a decision to make, I have a spare Xeon x5670 chip, the matched one I’m using is giving great performance.

An x58 mobo, and memory is about the same price as a decent upgrade to the cpu on the existing mobo ... I’ll then have a mobo and ram to sell to get some coin back, although I have a record of not being arsed to sell stuff tbh.

Either way it’s looking like a 1070ti for the gfx upgrade...would love a 1080 but it’s roughly £100 more.

The 1070ti will be just fine don't worry. It actually either performs equally to or outperforms my vega 64 in VR and I'm not having any trouble with any of the games holding 90fps.
