Simple question really, would it be worthwhile me upgrading from my hydor l30 pump to a laing d5? i know the technical specs of the d5 are better but i am really gonna see any real world performance increases?
Thanks

i'd say no. if what you have works then keep it as it is. if when you next upgrade you redo your watercooling then go for it then. it'll be way too much hassle for what cooling increase you get.

I would say yes - statistics prove that Hydor pumps will fail, leak water all over all your PC and cause a deadly fire!

I say no - upgrade to a Laing DDC Ultra (18W). About 1.5x better than a D5 for virtually the same cost (oh and get an Alphacool Pro top for it too).

ok cheers thanks guy. I know the DDC Ultra has a greater head height than the D5 but its flow rate is lower. Does the flow rate not make much of a different and is it the head height that makes the difference??

Flow would only make a difference in a MUCH larger loop. The size loops we deal with, flow has very little bearing at all, especially given the flow rates the pumps (even the worst) can output. The DDC Ultra is THE best w/c'ing pump out there at the moment - that's something that even came from the mouth of Cathar (designer of the Storm and cascade blocks and aid to the design of the Thermochill PA series radiators).
