Upgrade to nvidia 9 series ?

I suppose we'll see - but I read that the new 9 series GX2 card will have 30%-50% speed increase to the current 8800 Ultra :)

sure thats speed and not price

Yeah it's speed - price will probably be more like 100%! :p

As far as I know, they'll just be die shrinks - but I don't recall the 8 series having heat or noise problems, so it probably won't be worth upgrading for a lot of people as it'll just be more money for next to no performance.

The GX2 is the only really "new" card (although it's two current GPUs) and it might be worth upgrading to, then again it might not. It depends on the price, the noise, heat, and what the GPUs are (GS/GT/GTS cores) - this will determine it's performance.

9600 GT is this week sometime. :)

You know quite a lot about the 9 series cards as you have one already, only thing you don't know is the clock speeds. :p

just found this on a forum ------

I just preordered a Nvidia 9800 GX2 from EVGA. The sales rep reported that the *updated* release date is March 13th. It appears that the rumors were true about the green machine pushing back the launch. They are going to release their new Gefore with their new Mobo at the same time. Last, but not least, the MSRP is currently listed at $450. Its a deal as far as I am concerned since these are two G92's Geforce 8800 GTS 512s glued togeater.

Excellent news :) Hopefully the price won't be too different for the UK :)
1 months time :)

really dont see the point in these, maybe only for expensive quad SLI or ppl without an SLI mobo. a couple of months after these will be single chip high end cards which will be better than a gx2 or 8800 gt/gts in SLl :) but by how much i dont know, id say a good 40% though.. and im willing to bet ppl that buy the gx2 will be selling 2-3 months after for a 9800 gtx or whatever they will call it

I thought Nvidia changed their tactics when it came to card releases. The 8800's came out 6 months before the mid range, but that was at a time when Nvidia wanted to thrash ATi at the top end.

Now it seems the situation is reversed with Nvidia keeping ATI in check at the top end, but with ATi thumping Nvidia in the mid range market.

I'm guessing this is why the 9600 is hitting first to regain the middle section of the market. I'd fully expect Nvidia to have something special for the top end, aside from the 9800 GX2.

oohh goody the sooner these come the sooner the current 8800 gts 512mb come down in price and i can go sli :D
