Hulloha!

Thinking about upgrading my machine (some parts of it anyway) because my wallet is getting itchy.

So, my options, and this is what I have now:

AMD X2 5600+@3ghz
Gigabyte AM3 Motherboard (I forget which model)
5770 1GB
6GB DDR2
300GB HD
80GB HD
700W OCZ PSU

I was thinking

1) Get a 2nd hand Phenom II 955... or

2) Get an i3 setup, new motherboard, new ram, and sell the bits that I am upgrading from (so processor, motherboard, ram)

What do you reckon?

Wondering how the prices would match up, ta! :) (Getting the Phenom 2nd hand, vs getting the i3 setup and selling other components)

I'd recommend the 960T over the 955. It can possibly unlock to a 6 core and overclocks to about 4 ghz (4 with air, 6 with water), its what I have at the moment.

Yah, I thought about the 960T and actually bought one, but had to cancel the order because my motherboard doesn't support it!

Yup, even with a bios upgrade - out of a bunch, the 960T is one of the only processors it doesn't support :D

Doubt I'd upgrade for another year after this last bit heh

And actually I think I'll have to stick with my current setup with a new processor - I have heard Sandybridge doesn't support IDE drives (of which I use for my main windows drive at the moment).

Actually I lie - it's the 965 that my motherboard doesn't support, 960T is fine :D

So silly am I
